Vinyl plank flooring brings much to be desired, from stunning good looks to superb durability, even to include complete waterproof protection. It’s perfect for every room in your home and will last a long while.
After choosing the perfect material with the ideal characteristics, the final step is to have the flooring installed. Procedures will vary based on the subfloor you have to work with, and today, we’re going to consider concrete.
Luxury vinyl plank and concrete
Luxury vinyl plank is easier to install over concrete than you might think. With just a few things to consider, it’s well worth the effort, and you’ll reap the reward of a beautiful and long-lasting flooring covering.
The fact is, if your concrete floor is new, it will take an average of between 120 and 150 days to dry completely. During this time, water vapors off-gas from the concrete and create unfavorable circumstances for flooring installation.
While the water vapor will not damage the waterproof characteristics of a vinyl plank flooring with a wood or stone plastic composite, or a 100% vinyl core, it can still harbor mold and mildew. To avoid the health risks that can come with that, it’s best to wait for the suggested number of days to pass.
High or low spots in the concrete will also need to be ground down so that the surface is entirely even, to avoid separation of the vinyl. And don’t forget to ask about the benefits of installing a thermal underlayment or an underlayment with an attached moisture barrier.
