The wear layer thickness atop your engineered hardwood flooring can vary. Generally, this means the flooring will be more robust and last longer, but more facts are to know.
The wear layer handles the number of times the flooring can be refinished. And the more you know about your options, the better choice you can make when it's time to buy.
Natural wood and a wear layer?
The natural wood layer and the wear layer aren't separate parts. Instead, the natural wood layer is the wear layer, and it dictates the refinishing process for your engineered wood flooring.
Almost all engineered floors are compatible with refinishing. However, if the wear layer is 1mm or less, you should only recoat it and not refinish it.
But 2mm and above are perfect for the service. Here is a list of thicknesses and refinishing times.
