At Wholesale Flooring & Granite, we have fielded thousands of questions over our 18+ years in the flooring business. More often than not, these questions are far from new. The flooring industry is a pretty specialized field, so it's no surprise that many of our customers end up asking the same questions time and again.
So, we decided to have our team throw together a quick FAQ about one of the flooring materials we get a lot of questions about, engineered hardwood flooring, to be precise. So, let's talk engineered hardwood flooring, Baton Rouge!
1. Does it Need to Be Acclimated Like Solid Hardwood?
Engineered hardwood flooring, like its solid counterpart, is still a wood product. This means that it is just as susceptible to the same effects from moisture as traditional hardwood. This means it definitely needs to be acclimated to the climate of the room where it will be installed, to avoid cupping, warping, and spreading the way solid hardwood does.
So, the short answer is yes.
2. Can They Be Sanded and Refinished?
Again, the short answer is yes. Depending upon the thickness of your veneer, you can sand and refinish up to 5 times before your floor will need replacing. Obviously, this number is drastically decreased for floors with a thinner veneer. It is best to ask a professional refinishing service to have a look at the floor before you pull the trigger, though.
Make sure you give them an accurate measure of the thickness of your veneer when you consult with them, to avoid permanent damage to your floors.
3. What Will I Need to Do to Maintain Them?
This is an answer everyone likes to hear: Not too much, really! Engineered hardwood flooring is as easy to maintain as traditional hardwood flooring. It just requires regular sweeping, the occasional bit of love from a microfiber cloth, and immediate attention to liquid spills, to keep it in tip-top shape for many years.
